The peer-reviewed study demonstrates how targeting the tumor microenvironment through a novel mechanism of action can trigger immune-driven antitumor effects
ZAMUDIO (Bizkaia), 15th September 2026 – A study published in Science Advances, a journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), describes how OMTX305, a bispecific antibody directed against the tumor microenvironment, redirects the immune system to eliminate cancer-associated fibroblasts and trigger antitumor effects in patient-derived models of solid tumors. The paper was co-authored by Oncomatryx’s Founder and CEO, Laureano Simón, and Chief Scientific Officer, Myriam Fabre, together with researchers from the Dr. Margarete Fischer-Bosch Institute of Clinical Pharmacology and the University of Stuttgart, led by first author Julia Thiel.
The study evaluates OMTX305, a bispecific, trivalent T cell engager that binds both fibroblast activation protein (FAP) and CD3, tested on precision-cut tumor slices from lung and ovarian cancer patients combined with their own immune cells. Oncomatryx has collaborated with the Stuttgart-based research group on the biology of the tumor microenvironment for several years; this publication is the latest result of that collaboration.
For Oncomatryx, the publication reinforces the validity of the scientific thesis behind its platform: that targeting the tumor’s microenvironment, rather than the tumor cell itself, remains a promising avenue across multiple mechanisms of action, from antibody-drug conjugates to bispecific T cell engagers.
